Rin 10/10/10

WHAT a beautiful October day--for wandering around a brocante? Why not? It involved driving east of Paris proper in the morning, to La Queue-en-Brie, where we (my seller--driving--his friend, and I) circled for quite a while on streets parked solid for this large flea market. The entire market was outdoors, on blocked, winding streets. Not only attics, but closets, garages, and glove compartments from cars must have been emptied. Need a faucet? Ghastly 80s recordings? Pre-viewed DVDs? Dishes, pots and pans? Pumpkins, walnuts, furniture, your roof re-tiled? Got just what you need right here. We weren't all that early, but it was still jammed with people. More brac than bric (as became a little running joke) today, but another opportunity to jostle along with hundreds of people, munching on an omelette sandwich--with the startling occasional vista, if you raised your eyes from the tables and there happened to be an opening, of a shaded woody ridge, or a slope not yet suburbanized, under a brilliant blue sky. The occasional golden leaf would wander down into the crazy midst, reminding that the weather (as I'm reassured) is living on borrowed time.
